Decluttering your family home after summer

Decluttering your family home after summer

After a scorching May and early June, it feels like the summer may have just passed us by this time round! We’re approaching the end of August, the kids are almost ready to go back to school and as much as we may want to deny it, we’re pretty sure it’s getting darker a little earlier than it used to. Whilst it’s not yet time to dust off our wool jumpers, it is time to start planning on what needs to go into storage and what needs to come out….

De-summer

We’re sorry to say, it’s time to put those barbeques away. We’re pretty sure you don’t want to be the person that invested in an expensive BBQ whilst the sun was shining, only to leave it out over winter and find it riddled with rust when you look to use it again next year; so how do we avoid that happening? If we went through homeowner storage, a BBQ is one of the most common items you’re going to find in there, along with other summer essentials; that tent that won’t fully collapse (we’ve all got one), those beach toys that didn’t quite occupy the kids as much as they should, as well as outdoor furniture.

Self storage is a great way to pack it all away in a safe, secure and dry environment, where it’ll be in great condition to use the next time we’re hit by a summer heatwave.

You’ll be putting your belongings into safe hands at M-Store, as we have:

·      Security cameras across the whole site

·      A high-tech security pass system

·      Alarms at each unit

·      A high perimeter fence

·      A fantastic team dedicated to protecting your items

Opportunity for a clear-out

As September looms nearer, the kids will be returning to school and starting fresh in a new year. We know how fast they grow and change, so now would be a good time to go through their toys, clothes and other belongings and get rid of all the bits and pieces they’ve ultimately outgrown. Recycle what you can, give some items to charity, or store bits and pieces away that you think the younger siblings might make use of in a year or two. Of course, while you’re waiting for that to happen, you can always pop these items in self-storage so they aren’t cluttering up your home in the time being.

Make a home for everything

Trying to tidy a house that doesn’t have enough storage space is like making a meal without having the plates to serve it on. When items don’t have a designated home, they end being sprawled out across the living room floor, or circle their way aimlessly around the house without finding anywhere to settle.

Add some storage solutions to your house – drawers to fit under your kids’ beds, vacuum packs to stash summer clothing in, whatever you need.

If you are running out of storage options, however, think outside the house. Placing bits and pieces into a container unit is a great solution because it saves you the hassle of having to hunt out storage opportunities in your house. Just pop your belongings in a safe, designated space waiting to be filled.
