How to get your garden ready for summer

Spring is in full swing which can only mean we’re now speeding toward summer! Winter can be tough on gardens so to help you get your garden summer ready, we’ve put together some of our top tips. Your garden will be all ready for lazy BBQ evenings and afternoon sunbathing sessions in no time!

Take care of your flower beds

Gardening is not much of a winter activity for most of us who live in the UK. If you’re guilty of neglecting your lawn, flower beds and borders, now is a good time to get in there and get them tidied up. Mow your lawn, plant some fresh flowers to brighten up your space and treat any weeds. If you’re not much of a green thumb, you can also get wildflower seed packets to plant in your borders which require minimal planting effort from you and are great for a variety of wildlife, like bees and butterflies!

Garden furniture

If you’ve squirreled away your garden furniture for safekeeping during the winter months, now is the time to get it out! If your furniture is a wooden or natural material, don’t forget to treat it. We’re no stranger to a summer downpour in the UK (we like to refer to it as liquid sunshine!) so ensuring your furniture is protected will save you costly repairs or replacements.

Tidy up the patio

Patios are notorious for becoming outdoor dumping grounds. Get your patio ready for serving summer drinks or enjoying al fresco dining by tidying it up now. If you lack a garden shed and find a lot of your garden tools accumulate there, it may be worth considering self-storage to keep your tools protected and out of the way when they’re not needed. This a great option for lawnmowers too!

Who’s ready for a BBQ?

If you find yourself rushing for the BBQ the second the sun comes out, only to find it’s in need of a jolly good clean, now is the time to take an hour and get that BBQ spick and span. Clean the BBQ, make sure you stock up on coal or fill up the gas bottle and, if you want to be extra organised, fill up that freezer with BBQ-friendly treats so you’re ready to head outside the second the sun starts shining!
