Christmas storage ideas for hiding those presents

Christmas storage ideas for hiding those presents

If you’ve got kids, you’ll know that during December, the excitement for Christmas will just build and build in your household. Decorating the tree, decorating the house, baking Christmas treats and blaring out the festive tunes are all fun parts of the build up to the big day, but there can be drawbacks…

Do your children root through the cupboards, trying to find the presents you’ve lovingly picked out for them? Some little ones will stop at nothing to see their presents early, so you’ll need to fight back and take action to keep those presents hidden.

Here are some of our ideas for keeping those Christmas gifts out of your children’s hands…

Try the attic

The closet will be the first place that those cheeky children look to find presents. You can switch it up without too much effort, though; pick a spot that’s a little less ordinary, like in the attic, downstairs in the basement or even out in the garage!

Be crafty with your boxes

No matter where you hide your presents, hide presents in plain boxes, just like the others around them. Bonus points if you write something misleading on the side of the box – “Bills” or something similar should deter them!

If you’re feeling particularly canny, try hiding presents in plain sight in an obvious place, but make them look less interesting than they really are. Put your kids’ new games system look like a blender and they won’t peek. Stack it on the shelf next to other things, perhaps in a plain box and they won’t even think to look there.

Use a suitcase

Suitcases make great storage containers any time of year, but if you have empty luggage around the house, put it to good use this holiday season. It can be great for hiding bigger items, and hard case luggage is good for hiding delicate items.

Hide among your unmentionables

Most kids won’t check for presents in certain places as they see them at off limits. These spots include underwear drawers and places where you store unmentionables. These are great places to hide smaller presents.

In a storage unit

Storage units are useful for many things and if your children are particular persistent, or if you just have a lengthy Christmas list and need a lot of space, renting a storage unit for the holiday period could solve all your present hiding problems.
